TRANSFORM : IoT for Composite Materials

As part of the European TRANSFORM project, Compositadour and ESTIA TECH are developing an innovative training programme focused on the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) into composite manufacturing processes.

The aim is to help future engineers better understand how digital technologies can improve industrial performance. By combining composite materials, advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies, the project provides a practical approach to the technological challenges currently faced by industry.
 

The programme, which consists of 24 hours of training over three days, will combine theoretical learning with hands-on activities. Participants will manufacture a composite part using the vacuum infusionprocess while monitoring key process parameters through a network of connected IoT sensors. This practical experience will allow them to observe in real time how data can be used to monitor and optimise production.
 

The use of IoT technologies in the composites industry offers new opportunities to improve product quality, reduce manufacturing defects, minimise waste and optimise energy consumption. These challenges are at the heart of the transformation towards the factory of the future.
 

Through this collaboration, Compositadour and ESTIA TECH are combining their expertise to develop innovative educational tools and contribute to the training of tomorrow’s engineers. The project also highlights the complementarity of the ESTIA platforms in supporting projects from technological innovation through to industrial applications.
 

The educational materials developed as part of the TRANSFORM project will be completed before the start of the 2026–2027 academic year and will be made available under a Creative Commons CC BY licence.
