Update on the Composites and Bamboo Project - BAMCO 2!
BAMCO 2 is the sequel to the BAMCO(BAmboo long fiber reinforced biobased Matrix COmposites) project launched in 2019 in partnership with Expleo Group, Arkema, COBRATEX SAS, SPECIFIC POLYMERS, CIRIMAT and MECANO ID, the aim of which was to design new biobased technical composites based on long bamboo fibers that would ultimately help reduce the environmental footprint of aircraft, while retaining attractive mechanical properties and meeting fire resistance standards.environnementale des avions, tout en conservant des propriétés mécaniques intéressantes et répondre aux normes de tenue feu.
Today, with BAMCO 2, our aim is to create representative demonstrators of cabin fittings using this biosourced and biodegradable material. The main challenge will be to perfect the fiber and matrix to meet fire-smoke standards, in particular FAR 25 and FAR 23.
Our role in this project?
- Participate in drafting the specifications for the demonstrators to be produced at the end of the project.
- Draft specifications for the Bamboo thermoplastic matrix composite to be used in robotized fiber placement (AFP).
- In partnership with the Canoe platform, produce Bamboo - PA 11 flame-retardant prepreg rovings.
- Test this new material in robotized fiber placement.
- Produce demonstrators in flame-retardant Bamboo-PA11 in line with the part definition proposed by the Bamco 2 Advisory Board.
Our contribution :
- Our expertise in developing new materials
- Our expertise in building demonstrators using robotized fiber placement technology
- Managing our composites: the purchase of a specialized shredder
- Recycling composite materials? The new challenge facing the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region
